Royal Flusher's Craps Strategies and Examples

In the previous post, I went over the bits and pieces from the Dice Doctor book that I like. I won't redefine things like Qualified Shooter, Lockup Rack, or Double Dutch Oven Rudder here.

For my upcoming trip, I need a low-rolling low variance bankroll preserving strategy with a potential huge upside when a monster roll comes around.

Royal Flusher's Craps Strategies

My basic core strategy is fairly simple, but honestly, might be awfully boring. But then again, spending 5 or 6 hours watching Bingo at the Plaza because you have no money is also boring. (Actually, that's just an assumption on my part - must try this!!!)

Royal Flusher's Super Cheap Craps Strategy

Here are the basic elements of this strategy:
  • Start with a session bankroll of $110, one session is ten shooters
  • Bet only on qualified shooters. (Drink while waiting.)
  • Take only single odds
  • No place bets, no come bets, no proposition bets
  • Parlay the naturals one time, no odds if a point number rolled on the parlay
  • Increase pass line bets by 50% with each successful pass or naturals parlay
  • Increase the next session bankroll by 50% if there's enough profit
  • Play with rock solid mathematical unemotional machine-like precision (unless I get a really strong feeling)
    More of these please. Kthxbye.

Super Cheap Craps Strategy Example

Buy in for $110. Wait for a qualified shooter. Order a Maker's rocks. Shift from foot to foot and play with the chips in the rack in front of me. Try not to stare at the rack across from me.

Shooter makes a point. Bet $5 on the pass line.

A 6 is rolled, so put $5 in odds behind the line. Another 6 is rolled. Winner! Total payout is $21.

Increase pass line by ~50% to $7.

A 4 is rolled, so put $7 in odds behind the line. Put $7 in the lockup rack ($21 minus $7 minus $7).

Another 4 is rolled. Total payout is $35.

Increase pass line by ~50% to $10.

Winner 7 is rolled. Parlay the $10 bet and $10 winnings - now have $20 on the pass line. Put $15 in the lockup rack ($35 minus $20).

A 5 is rolled. Do not take odds.

Another 5 is rolled. Collect $40. Take a big hit of Maker's.

Increase pass line by ~50% to $15.

Loser 3 craps is rolled. Put $25 in the lockup rack.

Back to betting $5 on the pass line again.

An 8 is rolled. Put $5 odds behind the line.

Seven out.

Take a long haul on the Maker's and wait for the next qualified shooter, on which the bet will be $5 on the pass line.

Royal Flusher's Super Cheap Balls Deep Craps Strategy

This strategy has the potential to win a lot of money on the right shooter, but not a lot of downside. It's the same as my basic Super Cheap Craps Strategy with but borrows the naturals parlay part of the Dice Doctor's Fireman Play.

If a 7 or 11 is rolled on the come out roll, I will parlay it. If another 7 or 11 rolls, I will parlay again. In fact, I'll keep parlaying that sumbitch until I'm in balls deep and hit the table limit. It ends when either craps (2,3, 12) rolls, or a point is established. I won't take odds on the point, and will hope to hell the point is made. When the point is made, I'll put a shitload of chips in my lockup rack, and go up one level in my pass line bet.

The session bankroll for this strategy is $110 for ten qualified shooters.

Royal Flusher's Super Cheap Balls Deep Craps Strategy Example

Buy in for $110. Wait for a qualified shooter. Order a fourth Maker's rocks. Wink at a passing hottie, wrapped up skin tight in about 2 square feet of stretchy lime green dress, who does not look up from her phone. Hang on to the chip rack for support.

Shooter makes a point, qualifying him. Toss $5 somewhere near the pass line.

A 7 is rolled. Winner! Parlay! I now have $10 on the pass line.

A 7 is rolled. Winner! Parlay! I now have $20 on the pass line.

An 11 is rolled. Winner! Parlay! I now have $40 on the pass line.

Shooter puts one die softly against the back wall pyramids, and the other in some sweaty guy's chest hair. Shout "SAME DICE" with everyone else.

A 7 is rolled. Winner! Parlay! I now have $80 on the pass line and I wonder what the hell I am doing not clawing back a few bucks.

A 5 is rolled. I sit tight. I do not take odds. I grit my teeth and pray for another 5.

Because this is fiction, a 5 is rolled! WOOHOO! Payout is $160. I look like a star. I ignore the people who are wondering why I didn't take odds. They don't know what I know.

Increase pass line by ~50% to $7.

A 10 is rolled, so put $7 in odds behind the line. Put $146 in the lockup rack ($160 minus $7 minus $7).

Another 10 is rolled. Total payout is $35.

I'm a freaking star. Order another Maker's rocks and sway to the music. High four everyone in sight.

Increase pass line by ~50% to $10.

And so on from there.

Royal Flusher's Action Parlay Craps Strategy

Admittedly, my Super Cheap strategy could will be boring, and if a lot of numbers are rolled, I could be standing with my thumb up my ass while everyone else is high fiving. I'd rather take my thumb out of my ass, get some action on those numbers, then high five someone. Considering where my thumb has been, maybe I'd better make it a high four.

I came up with a strategy that costs a bit more, but has twice the action as the Super Cheap strategy, and a much more aggressive parlay possibility.

The Dice Doctor describes something he calls a converted come bet. Basically, instead of making a come bet, and adding odds when the come bet is moved to a number, you place bet the same as a come bet plus odds when a number is rolled. You're skipping the bet on the come line, and going directly to the number.

Here's an example. I bet $5 on the pass line. An 8 is rolled. I take single odds on my pass line bet. Now, instead of placing a $5 Come bet, I sit tight. A 6 is rolled. I place $12 on the 6, roughly the same amount as I would have if I'd had a Come bet and added odds. The advantage is I'm protected from a craps roll which would cause a Come bet to lose. The disadvantage is the place bet doesn't return quite as much as a Come bet with odds.

My Action Parlay strategy is similar to the Dice Doctor's Converted Come Bet Play with a couple of changes. I don't make a converted come bet until the first pass line bet has been made. And I only make one converted come bet, not two.

With the Action Parlay strategy, I combine my basic Super Cheap strategy with a parlay on converted come bets. Every time my converted come bet hits, I parlay it by 50% until I reach the table limit (!) or a seven rolls.

The session bankroll for the Action Parlay Strategy is $170 - ten $5 pass line bets plus ten $12 place bets (enough to cover a converted come bet if all the initial points are 6 and 8).

Royal Flusher's Action Parlay Craps Strategy Example

Buy in for $150. Wait for qualified shooter, Maker's rocks, yada yada yada. Bet $5 on the pass line.

3 craps 3. I lose. Bet $5 on the pass line.

A 9 is rolled. I take single odds of $5 behind the line and get ready with my converted come bet.

A 6 is rolled. I make a converted come bet, placing the 6 for $12.

A bunch of numbers are rolled, but no 7s. I take a long pull of the Maker's and order another.

A 6 is rolled! I get a payout of $14. $6 of it is added to my converted come bet, and $8 goes into the lockup rack.

I now have $18 on the 6, $7 on the pass line, and $7 in odds.

A 6 is rolled! I'm a freaking star. I order another Maker's rocks and sway to the music. High four everyone in sight. I get a payout of $21. I make the place bet on the 6 look like $24 and put $15 in the lockup rack.

And so it goes. I will keep parlaying my converted come bet in single unit increments until it loses. My pass line bets will increase by 50% with each winning pass, independently of the converted come bet.

When the 7 hits, we start all over again with $5.

Wrap-up

The Action Parlay sounded simple when I thought it up but writing it out, it looks like it could get complicated.

I fired up WinCraps and tested out the Super Cheap strategy and the results were very interesting. In multiple sessions, it did indeed preserve my bankroll very nicely, allowing great longevity at the 'table'.

In my first session, at one point, I found myself with $12 left, all of which got bet.

I won that bet and floated up a bit, and then almost out again. That's when a hot series of rolls happened, and with parlaying, I quickly had $250 in the rack.

Sounds good to me, but what will happen when real money is on the line?

    1. Your parley idea is insane. The dice are not nice and orderly in the real world. The shooter is just as likely to roll a bunch of sevens, and then roll a crap, or establish a point and then seven out. Your ultra aggressive pressing will leave you angry and frustrated.

Most rolls on a craps table are of short duration. When you finally find a hot shooter, you want to spread on a bunch of numbers, and then SENSIBLY increase your bets. A hot shooter is not necessarily one who makes a lot of points; it could be someone who rolls a lot of different numbers before sevening out. When the hot roll is over, you should cash out, and leave the table.

    2. Bingo isn't that cheap. and they have machines that check the #'s for you...so you basically pay and then just sit there until our machine honks. So yea, go with the craps! I learned the hard way. - Nmchop

    3. This play will dry up your offers exponentially. Unless, you re still doing 5-10K coin in as well.
