ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, or MND as it is known in the UK, is regarded by many as the worst disease you can get.
In true Quad Queen fashion, Karen hit the reverse jackpot and was diagnosed with this very rare and terminal disease in the spring of 2023.
The live expectancy of an ALS patient averages out to 2 to 5 years after diagnosis.
Karen got just 6 months. But she faced it all with a smile on her face, happy to make the most of each day, and the kind of bravery not many could muster in the face of such a disaster.
I miss her every day and if crying 10,000 tears could bring a person back, she'd be here right now. Perhaps in some fashion, she is.
Consider supporting the ALS Society of Canada or the ALS Association, both of which helped us. The benefit they provided was immeasurable. I truly don't know how we would have gotten through this without their support.
Here are the posts I made about our last months together.
