Royal Flusher's Daily Vegas Pic - July 6, 2018 - Downtown Las Vegas at Dawn

Downtown looks interesting these days from many vantage points. Take a look at this image I grabbed from the last trip (sneak preview of the upcoming full trip report).

It changes throughout the day and night, and at dusk and dawn, colors pop out to grab your attention.

One of the biggest changes is the annihilation of the Great Moments room, which was ensconsed inside the also annihilated Las Vegas Club. (Anyone remember the Great Moments room?)

What's left is nothing more than a flat desert. With a couple of holes in it.

But the cool thing is the views it opens up. You can see the Cal clearly from Fremont hotels, and vice versa.
Someday, the new casino hotel at 18 Fremont  will occupy most of this frame. I'm excited to see what it's going to end up like.

Right now, it's a blank canvas, ready to be painted with money.

And looking at the Cal, the original casino ran from the corner at right, to the edge of the east tower you see there. The rest was added later, and a second tower, and an addition to the second tower even later.

I finally realized why there is a strangely placed exit from the Cal casino - it falls right where the old casino ended. Makes sense now.
