Day 8 - Monday morning found me feeling kind of crappy and craving something other than grease, meat, and carbohydrates. Fruit or vegetables. So my plan was to do my morning chores, and head to Main Street Station for the 8:00 am opening of the buffet.
I bounced around the machines, trying this and that, to no effect. $100 was gone by the time the buffet opened.
It's so weird, ever since my big royal win, I haven't been able to hit a thing of any significance. And so, my playing time has been miniscule.
Not being willing to throw money at the experience willy nilly means that at times today I would be quite bored. Bored in Vegas?
The buffet was about $24 and was pretty good. Manny was at the controls of the omelette station, but he doesn't seem like his old self. The banter has disappeared. I bet his tips have never recovered since the pandemic.
I enjoyed my breakfast, and got some veg into my bod in the form of a breakfast salad. That's a first for me, I think.
Yesterday I thought I'd try the machine I got the royal on again, but it was occupied when I went to it.
Today, I gave it a bash.
I started with $20. It was ineffectual. Then another $20. Mehhhh same thing. Then I primed the pump with $100.
That got the machine going and I spent an enjoyable hour and three quarters pounding away, the first such session in two days. I hit lots of quads and had two chances for big wins with four to a royal deals.
Another royal?!...
Nope.
Another royal?!...
Nope.
So that was that, but at least I'd enjoyed my time playing. And I had a legitimate shot at winning some money.
It should be noted that on Super Times Pay, if you are dealt a royal, and you got a multiplier on the deal, both multipliers automatically go to the maximum.
On dimes, a royal flush pays $400. So twice, I was just one card and a multiplier off of $400 x two 10x multiplier times three lines. $400 x 20 x 3 = (ulp) $24,000.
Back at the Cal I dumped cash and more cash into video Keno. It was awful. Couldn't hit at thing. This was the only photo I took:
Boy is this getting old fast. I took a long rest in the room, had a nap, and so on, and tried to figure out what to do. Should I stick to my careful ways and just be bored through the rest of the trip? Should I risk losing $1000 in one day just so I could play more.
A day ago I mentally toyed with the idea of going home early - something I've never actually done. Book the win and call it a day.
So what I decided on was to get a few mega keno tickets at the D, try the very last of my $500 stake in Boner Deluxe at the Plaza, and then hole up in the room.
I bought a 250 game 5 spot ticket with the 5 corner number. Hitting all 5 pays $400.
I bought a ticket with the same numbers, with all five 4 spot variations covered for 10 cents a game. Hitting any one of those pays $16.25.
And I bought a 6 spot tickets, with the same 5 corner number, plus the 19, for 20 cents a game. Hitting all 6 pays $600.
The total cost of the tickets was $275, which I mentally counted to be coming out of tomorrow's stake. Any winnings would also be applied to tomorrow's results.
Hitting the 5 out of 5 would cover the cost of all the tickets and render a profit of $125 to boot. That would also cover all five of the 4 spot tickets for an additional $65 win.
But the real sweet spot would be if I could hit all six numbers. That would be $65 for the 4 spots, $400 for the 5 spots, and $600 for the 6 spot for a total of $1065.
That's what I'm hoping for. Multiple 5 spot wins would also be acceptable, needless to say!
So, I bought my tickets - and the Keno man complimented my choice of numbers, making me feel very savvy indeed - hit the ABC store for some snacks, blew $25 at the Plaza on Boner Deluxe, and holed up in my room.
I spent the evening pouring myself drinks, eating the left-over pizza from the night before, munching on snacks, watching back-to-back episodes of Below Deck Mediterranean, and running the Keno games on my Chromebook.
Throughout the evening, nothing hit, and I finally went to bed, hoping the games in the night would be good to me.
At this point, I am plus $800 for the trip, not counting the $600 withheld for tax. I've also spent $275 of tomorrow's stake.
Much as I would like to return to the Greacey Palms a big winner, I also don't want to just sit in Vegas in my room. It's been a year between trips. Tick tock.
I've had a lot of amazing luck this trip. I had about $1300 available to me in cash, and had transferred $4000 to a bank account that I can access from Las Vegas. I waited too late to do the transfer and there was a hold put on the funds until Christmas Day. I was worried that I would run out of money at Luxor before then.
Well, here I am with one day to go and I haven't even touched the $4000. Keeping it in perspective. (Also thinking about the ass-reaming I took on the cruise, and boy would I like to win enough to cover that, but it's not looking like I will.)
Unless Keno comes in hot.
Sorry if these last couple of posts have been boring. I'm definitely not 100% healthy, and, well, not that much interesting is happening.
Whatever happens, you'll hear about it!
